Dividend dates, without the jargon
When must I own a share to receive its dividend?
For a normal SGX trade, you generally need to own it before the ex-dividend date. Buying on the XD date is ordinarily too late for that declared payment.
Why is the payment date later than the ex-dividend date?
XD determines market entitlement. The record date confirms eligible holders, while the payment date is when the issuer sends the cash through CDP or your custodian.
Are these dates guaranteed?
